Pi – Faith is a house with many rooms.
Writer – But no room for doubt?
Pi – Oh plenty, on every floor. Doubt is useful, it keeps faith a living thing. After all, you cannot know the strength of your faith until it is tested.
– Book: Life of Pi
When doubt knocks at your door, how do you treat it? Do you send it away or do you open the door and let it stay? Honest faith is making room for doubt in the house of faith. It is to show hospitality towards the stranger who needs a home because doubt pushes you to keep searching, to keep looking, to keep taking yourself on a journey called life. For many of us, we assume that keeping doubt out of our territory is what keeps faith alive but it is the opposite. Abraham, Moses, David and Peter made plenty of room for doubt and yet still considered to be great men of God.
So when you invite doubt to your house, your life becomes vibrant. It keeps faith a living thing. So don’t be too scared to make room for doubt, because the visitor is there for a good reason.
